Increase Your Metabolism with the Foods you Eat and Lose Weight

There is no secret to weight loss – you must eat fewer calories than you eat. Unfortunately, many diet plans do not follow this simple scientific truth and by promoting reduced food, they are doomed to fail.

Many dieters think that they can lose weight by cutting out meals, but this is not going to achieve sustainable weight loss and good health. Missing meals makes your body think you are in famine and so it slows down the processes of the body to conserve energy. This is called your metabolism and it is control of the calories you burn. If it slows down, as it does when you miss meals, your body doesn’t burn the calories you have eaten. So, the not-so-secret secret to weight loss is to keep your metabolism active.

Your metabolism is fueled by food – the type of food and how often you eat it. You need to eat within about 30 minutes of getting up to get your metabolism started for the day. What you eat in the morning must be good fuel for your body – protein, complex carbohydrates and fluid. If you have difficulty facing food early in the morning, try a healthy smoothie of skim milk, fruit (bananas or berries), yogurt, wheatgerm and nuts.

Regular meals and snacks throughout your day will keep your metabolism pumping and burning calories for you. You will also find you have increased energy. Plan to eat something every 2 to 3 hours, even if it is only a handful of nuts and seeds, a piece of fresh fruit or some celery and carrot sticks. Most dieters think it is best if they wait until they are really hungry before they eat, but by then, the metabolism has already started to slow down – this is what makes many diets ineffective.

The best eating plan is one in which you eat 6 small meals a day. You will have 3 main meals and 3 snacks. The meals must consist of lean protein – chicken, fish, pork, dairy; complex carbohydrate – whole grains, brown rice, wholemeal pasta and vegetables – as many as you want, trying to have as many different colors on your plate as possible to get different nutrients. These meals will be satisfying and helping you lose weight at the same time.

You will be more likely to keep to a correct eating plan if you add variety to your meals; try to avoid repeating the same meals constantly. Search for healthy and interesting recipes for interest and variety. Try to eat some raw food every day – the more the better. Make your own nutritious and filling soups and stews for winter meals, adding different kinds of beans and other pulses. Remember to drink 8 glasses of water throughout the day.

Follow these tips to keep your metabolism speeding along, you will be burning more calories than your, you will see the weight coming off and you will never feel hungry.
